Hair Analysis for dogs and cats

A hair analysis is a scientific test which accurately measures the mineral content of the hair using atomic absorption methods.

Mineral content of the hair reflects the mineral content of the body’s tissues. If a mineral deficiency or excess exists in the hair, it usually indicates a mineral deficiency or excess within the body, although sometimes it can actually mean the reverse. It can also indicate whether that mineral is bioavailable to the cells and tissues.

Hair mineral analyses are also very accurate in determining the levels of toxic heavy metals – a problem which is becoming all too common in an ever-increasing toxic world. Toxic metals such as mercury, aluminum, arsenic and/or lead can have a profound impact on health and can be very destructive. Routine blood tests cannot detect chronic heavy-metal poisoning; however, tissue mineral analysis, using atomic absorption, is considered a legitimate method.

A mineral hair analysis can also reveal a variety of different nutritional and health problems as well as the status of many organs and glands, including the liver and kidneys; and thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal glands. It can detect adrenal dysfunction, digestive disturbances, thyroid and pituitary dysfunction, blood sugar imbalances, anemia, and inflammation.

A hair analysis can detect these imbalances and problems, where often conventional blood testing cannot.

Nutritional physiology takes place at the cellular level, not in the blood. Blood levels of nutrients and minerals are kept within very narrow limits by the body and are slow to change. Thus, blood levels are not a true reflection of the nutrient status within the tissues, organs and glands which are all often depleted before the blood is. In contrast, tissue mineral analysis provides information about cellular activity within the tissues and the metabolism of all nutrients throughout the body.

Common causes of a mineral imbalance are poor diet, mal-digestion of foods, nutrient deficiencies, medications, stress, and/or the accumulation of toxic or heavy metals.

Your hair tissue mineral analysis results will include a complete written report prepared by Marijke based on your individual case, along with the laboratory bar graph which shows the values of over 30 minerals and elements, 8 toxic heavy metals and 15 mineral ratios. Hair analysis is an invaluable screening tool which guides diet and food choices and a recommended supplement program for optimum health and wellness.

Please note: For dogs with multiple allergies, skin issues, and chronic immune problems it is recommended to start with a full Health Consultation. This is required to address the food intolerances, diet and nutrition imbalances, gastrointestinal problems, and any parasites, yeast, or bacteria.

“Cooper is a 9 year old Golden Retriever and he had been suffering from hots spot, itching, biting his paws, chronic ear infections, allergies, and nerve problems in his face. He was on various medications but they didn’t seem to be helping much. So I had a hair analysis done and learned that Cooper had a lot of vitamin and mineral deficiencies including iron as well as excessive levels of zinc and salt. He also had a low thyroid. Based on his hair analysis we reduced his meat protein levels, increased the plant-based foods and put him on a complete supplement program. I am happy to say that Cooper is now symptom-free! Thank you!”

Preparing a Hair Sample

Take a hair sample that weighs approximately 125 mg (about ½ Tablespoon) as close to the skin as possible from the chest area.

  • The hair should be no longer than 1 to 1 – 1/2 inches.
  • For long haired dogs and cats, cut the extra length off and keep the 1 to 1 1/2 inch section which was closest to their skin.
  • For outdoor dogs and cats wash the testing area with rubbing alcohol and let dry completely before taking the sample.

The Marijke Method ™

Marijke performs her health assessments based on her extensive knowledge of animals and her long-time experience in clinical practice for animals. During this time, she developed a specific technique of kinesiology or “energy testing” known as The Marijke Method ™ which can be used in person or remotely.

This technique is possible because of the electromagnetic field which surrounds all organs, body tissues, emotions and diseases. These fields are a fundamental force of nature and are a unique “fingerprint” for every animal and every person.

Marijke is able to help your pets no matter where they live since her services are also provided remotely.
